Terry Fox (1958–1981) was a Canadian hero and athlete known for his brave fight against cancer. After losing his right leg to osteosarcoma in 1977, he decided to help raise awareness and funds for cancer research. In 1980, he started the "Marathon of Hope," a run across Canada to collect money for cancer research, aiming to run about 42 kilometers (26 miles) every day.

Over 143 days, Terry ran a total of 5,373 kilometers (3,339 miles) from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Thunder Bay, Ontario. He had to stop when his cancer came back. His incredible journey touched the hearts of many Canadians and people worldwide, making him a symbol of hope and perseverance.

Terry is recognized as a national hero in Canada, inspiring many to overcome challenges. His story reminds us of the power of determination and community support in fighting cancer.
